Our Services
The Pre-Purchase Survey
The most comprehensive of all marine surveys, the Pre-Purchase survey. This survey is performed on behalf of the prospective boat buyer to identify issues and concerns before the boat is purchased.
Every boat owner should first be understood that each boat is unique and will have issues. I’ve inspected brand new boats straight off the manufacturing line with issues that needed to be addressed. That is the nature of a boat and unavoidable. It is our job to identify them and create a punch list of issues to be corrected before you take delivery. Your boat has to operate in a hostile environment with many systems that are asked to perform various functions. It is inevitable they will have problems. Our plan is to is identify these problems before they cost you money or worse create safety concerns.
During our Pre-Purchase survey, I strive to inspect every accessible inch of your boat. This can be challenging since every boat is different. Depending on the vessel type, age and equipment, the following systems that are inspected and tested can include, but are not limited to:
Hull, Deck & Superstructure
AC and DC Electrical
Fuel System
Steering Gear
Plumbing & Marine Pumps
Deck Level Rigging & Sails
Drivetrain & Running Gear
Haul-Out & Bottom Inspection
Sea Trials
Optional Oil Analysis
USCG & Safety Gear
Each survey culminates with a sea trial. The sea trial is a necessity in the Pre-Purchase survey to determine if your boat can do what is asked of it. A boat may look great sitting still at the dock, but how does she perform? How’s the steering? Do the engines perform like they should? Does she list? Any abnormal vibrations? The only way to know is to put the boat through its paces and ask the boat to do everything it’s meant to do.
The Condition and Valuation Survey
The Condition & Valuation survey sometimes referred to as an Insurance survey. This survey may also be used to refinance your boat loan. Insurance companies typically require that a C&V survey be conducted on a periodic basis as a condition for policy renewal.
The fee for the C&V survey is based upon the length of your vessel. For a complete breakdown of pricing please view the pricing schedule page for more information.
The purpose of the C&V survey is to provide the insurance or loan underwriter with an evaluation of the vessel’s structural integrity, fair market value and safety.
Based on this evaluation, the underwriter determines whether or not the vessel is an acceptable risk. Condition and Valuation surveys may take place in water, or hauled, depending on the conditions stipulated in the owner’s individual policy.
The Appraisal Survey
An Appraisal survey Inspection is an abbreviated report as compared to the Condition and Valuation survey. During this inspection, the vessel’s condition will be emphasized and clearly defined to provide an accurate valuation. The report will explore the operating condition of machinery and other systems, as well as discuss the limitations of inspection. An Appraisal survey may be conducted for a number of reasons, including divorce settlement, estate settlements and donations to charity. Reliant Marine Survey's surveyors are professional and our reports are recognized by the IRS, courts and banks.
The Damage Survey
Our Damage surveys may be performed for , vessel owners, insurance companies, and other vested entities. This survey will determine the nature, cause and extent of damage to a vessel due to accidents or environmental issues. We will work closely with tow boat and salvage operators. We also provide when the need arises, provide interface and subject matter opinion on repair shops and boatyards estimates to determine the cost of repairs.
The Pre-Cruise Survey
A Pre-Cruise survey is a great investment and a critical part of the pre-cruise plan. The survey will help avoid unexpected and costly issues that will appear on the cruise. Purchasing this survey brings a peace of mind that allows you to enjoy your voyage and make precious memories. Nothing can ruin a trip more than enduring an expensive breakdown far from home. Despite being a seasoned cruiser, you will benefit from fresh, professional eyes examining the systems of the boat. If you are new to cruising, it is essential to have your boat thoroughly checked by an experienced cruising surveyor before embarking on your adventure.
